Asheville Music Tools AFG-1

Once again deconstructing a classic type of guitar effect, the AFG-1 Analoger Series flanger pedal from Asheville Music Tools is unlike any other flanger you've ever used. As with all other AMT products, much care has gone into the specific component choices and design, leading to both enhanced audio fidelity and a sound flexibility only matched by synthesizers. And of course, it's 100% analog.

Inside, the AFG-1 makes use of the beloved MN3009 bucket brigade device (BBD), an iconic chip used in classic pedals that has been reissued due to the enduring popularity of its sound. Flangers are typically created with a super short delay—12ms or shorter—and paired with a low frequency oscillator (LFO) for the characteristic "swooshing" sound. However, the AFG-1 provides exacting control over both the delay and LFO sections in ways that allow for totally new flanger-adjacent sounds to be discovered, including comb filtering, resonances, and phaser-like effects.

Directly dial in the delay's Frequency and Feedback to establish your desired character and intensity, and set the LFO's Rate and Amount to be subtle, dramatic, or even totally bypassed. Futher characteristics may be explored with the Phase switch: Jet mode is the most dramatic and pronounced flanger, Swirl is slightly more subtle, and Phase ensures the wet signal is always out of phase with the dry for deeply resonant vibes. Unique to the AFG-1 is Envelope, a feature that allows the delay time to be modulated by the dynamics of your playing! With this Envelope or external CV/expression, can easily push outside of the intended ranges of the MN3009 chip, unlocking all sorts of degraded, crispy sounds you won't find in any other flanger.

Truly the flanger for the sound deisgner or discerning tone seeker, Asheville Music Tools' AFG-1 won't disappoint.
