Doepfer A-149-1

The A-149-1 from Doepfer is an affordable and underrated random voltage source. Based on functions of the classic Buchla Source of Uncertainty module, the A-149-1 generates four different but extremely musical types of random output voltage with great precision and range. The top section, Quantized Random Voltages, produces linear- and exponential-response stepped voltage progressions designed for use with oscillators which track 1V/Oct. The bottom section, Stored Random Voltages, provides one output with an even probability across 256 possible voltages and another with manual and CV control over the voltage distribution probability. Each section produces a change in voltage when a clock input is received.

When expanded with the A-149-2 Digital Random Voltages module, the A-149-1 can control eight additional random gate outputs, making this combination a powerful modulation hub for any West Coast modular system.
