Elektron Digitone Keys

The Digitone Keys is an incredible expansion of the Digitone—featuring a 37-note keybed and added user controls, the Digitone Keys takes a synthesizer that was already the next step in FM synthesis even farther. Breaking past the historical baggage that FM carries, the Digitone Keys provides keyboardists and other electronic musicians an easy way to explore completely new sonic realms with ease, opening up this notoriously complex synthesis method for exploratory play. Never before has an FM keyboard synth felt so immediate.

Offering eight voices with the option for full multitimbral behavior, the Digitone keys is a perfect marriage of both keyboard and sequencer-based workflows, offering full capability in both territories. With the addition of the keyboard, the Digitone Keys expands its accessibility and welcomes users who might not be familiar with the sequencer-based model of melody making. Luckily for those users who are, the Digitone Keys also includes Elektron's acclaimed sequencer, as well as a robust effects section to polish up your sounds!

For those planning to use Digitone Keys in tandem with their favorite DAW, Elektron's Overbridge software provides a slick way to seamlessly integrate your hardware as if it were a plugin. Drop the associated VST or AU into a track within your DAW, and suddenly every parameter is instantly available to be adjusted via the hardware or via the plugin interface, and the Total Recall feature saves all parameters inside your project. It doesn't stop there, as you're also able to stream all internal tracks of your Digitone Keys to individual tracks in the DAW, including the two external inputs, and in a pinch Digitone Keys can function as a two in/out audio interface. If you've already got an Overbridge capable instrument, the Overhub makes it simple to integrate multiple Elektron boxes that make use of this powerful software suite.

Regardless of whether it becomes the control center of your DAW-centered studio, or a powerful keyboard and sequencer brain for a hardware-centric setup, Digitone Keys delivers in sound, function, and flexibility.

Elektron Digitone Keys Sounds
Elektron has a new version of the Digitone that has a built in keyboard as well as a few other extras including individual stereo outs for all four channels and extra modulation controls. There are 8 knobs above the keyboard that control a preset set of voice controls as well as a set of 8 user programmable controls. The mod wheel and pitch bend as well as aftertouch and velocity from the keyboard can be routed as modulation sources to multiple destinations at once.

The synthesis of the Keys version is the same easy to use but great sounding FM engine from the original Digitone that also features the filters of subtractive synthesis.
NEW Elektron Digitone Firmware Update 1.32 - New features and more with Jacob and Mario
After a phenomenal update to the Digitakt last year, Elektron have finally unveiled a new OS firmware for the Digitone, tidying up the user experience and bringing the Digi boxes in line with each other. While the new features might not present themselves as a radical change in how the instrument operates, they do solidify the Digitone's capabilities as a powerhouse groovebox that can hold its own against the Digitakt or any synthesizer out there. Check out the video above where we hang out with Mario from Elektron, talk about the new OS, and bust out a few jams.
