One of Eventide's earliest products is back: the Omnipressor Model 2830 Au reissues the first-ever studio compressor designed specifically for the creative usage of dynamics management. Originally released to join the Instant Phaser and Instant Flanger as creative studio tools, the vintage Omnipressor introduced the concepts of external sidechain and dynamic reversal—where loud signals are attenuated and quiet sounds are boosted. Sadly the original Omnipressor was soon discontinued, but Eventide has decided to bring it back in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Omnipressor features some typical compression parameters but offers some unique malleability over the ways you can shape your signals. Variable Threshold, Attack, and Release controls give you optimal control over the point at which compression sets in and then how fast or slow it comes in and out. The interesting thing about Omnipressor is, of course, its Function control. At its center point, signals will pass through with dynamics completely unchanged—turn to the left to introduce gradually increasing downward expansion and gating behaviors. Towards the right compression is introduced, with limiter behavior about halfway between the middle and maximum. After this point, dynamic reversal is introduced, which inverts the control envelope to make quiet sounds loud and vice versa.

Parallel processing is easily achieved thanks to the Mix control, and Limit boundaries for attenuation and gain boost allow you to keep Omnipressor dialed in for more nuanced applications if needed. New for the anniversary reissue, a Link option allows multiple units to be chained together for stereo applications, and contemporary TRS and XLR connectors more appropriately fit the needs of current studios.
