Maag Audio's PREQ2-500 boasts an abundance of clean and transparent gain, along with their signature Air Band for boosting the highest of highs. Shrinking down the same circuit found in their larger PREQ2, this 500-Series version not only brings pristine clarity to your lunchbox but it also affords some clever routing opportunities thanks to its front panel 1/4" input and output jacks. Inside, Class-A circuitry yields up to 71dB of gain and incorporates a custom nickel-core transformer that affects both the instrument and microphone inputs. From there, a 70Hz highpass filter lets you clear out unwanted low-end rumble, while the Maag signature Air Band gives you up to +9dB of boost to select frequencies extending up to 40kHz. Meanwhile, the front-panel 1/4" output lets you tap a unity gain copy of the input and route it out to amplifiers, effects processors, and anything else for otherwise easy re-amping for the rear microphone input.
