Reimagining their classic tube microphone designs for today's recording methods, Neumann's M 147 is a 21st century tube microphone inspired by their legendary U 47. It utilizes the same K 47 large diaphragm condenser capsule as its predecessor, but while the tube circuitry and capsule provide the analog warmth of yesteryear, the M 147 does contain a solid-state, transformerless output section to offer a bit modern character that gels with contemporary recording setups. There's a distinct focus in the midrange that makes the M 147 a great fit for working with vocals, but that's not to say that it can't be used on any kind of instrument. Its internal noise is low thanks to its modern tube design, so it will work on a wide range of quieter sources, but set the M 147 near a louder instrument and the tube will introduce soft-clipping saturation as it approaches its 134 dB SPL threshold.
