Noise Engineering Sinc Bucina

Noise Engineering's Sinc Bucina is a combination envelope generator and lowpass gate, perfect for everything from classic LPG plucks to traditional envelope/VCA response. Sinc Bucina builds on the concepts of the previous Sinclastic Empulatrix, and makes a perfect addition to any harmonically-rich sound source to create a full synth voice.

Sinc Bucina offers an integrated lowpass gate and simple envelope. The LPG provides 6dB, 12dB, and 0dB filter slopes. It is controlled via two methods: a normalization from the internal envelope, or via a dedicated "ping" input for classic all-decay LPG plucks.

The envelope is a simple ASR type, with definable Attack and Release times, dedicated gate in, and a manual "hit" button. The envelope provides a direct output as well, allowing its use as a modulator for additional modules.

Sinc Bucina Features

  • Follow-up to the classic Sinclastic Empulatrix module
  • Lowpass gate and envelope coupled in a single module
  • Envelope offers continuously variable attack and decay
  • Traditional gate input as well as "ping" input for classic LPG-like decay-only response
  • Hit button for manual gating
  • Optional 6dB/oct, 12dB/oct, and 0dB/oct LPG cutoff slope
  • Eurorack module
  • Width: 4hp
  • Depth: 21mm
  • Current draw: 45mA @ +12V, 40mA @ -12V

Noise Engineering New Modules At SYNTHPLEX 2019
Noise Engineering showed us some of their new modules at SynthPlex 2019. This patch uses the Vox Digitalis as a sequencer, Cursus Iteritas Percido as the voice, Sinc Bucina low pass gate and Kith Ruina distortion. Noise Engineering also let us know that all of their modules will start coming with black panels.
Two Noise Engineering Cursus Iteritas Percidos With A Sinc Bucina & Terci Ruina
The Cursus Iteritas Percido is a Cursus Iteritas oscillator with a built in envelope that can modulate the oscillator and a Master Blaster knob that sends the envelope to every parameter at once, resulting in tons of modulation for interesting percussion and synth sounds. The Cursus Iteritas Percido oscillator core generates its own wavetables in real time as well as aliasing which is harmonically related to the pitch of the oscillator. The envelope is an attack/decay envelope with controls for envelope length, shape and slope, this allows you to adjust the envelope without changing its timing, or change its timing without changing its shape.

We also used the Sinc Bucina which is a low-pass gate with built in envelope and adjustable filter depth in only 4hp. Of course we needed some distortion which is provided by the Terci Ruina that is actually three distortions in one!
Sinc Bucina demo: VCA/VCF combo with resonant filter in 4HP
Sinc Bucina is the sequel to one of our first modules, Sinclastic Empulatrix, replacing the clamping VCA with a resonant lowpass VCF and VCA combo. The velocity-dependent Ping input offers classic release-only LPG behavior, while the Gate in offers much more complex slewing, useful for simple ASR envelopes to dynamic modulation. The envelope out allows the internal envelope to be routed out into a patch for even more versatility and modulation fun.
