Old Blood Noise Endeavors Excess V2

Keeping the sound of 80s shredding alive and well, OBNE's Excess V2 is the second iteration on their fantastic distortion and modulation pedal with new features and a more compact design. The Excess V2 is a stellar upgrade from its predecessor all while holding true to its roots. Each effect has its own level control for balancing as well as two parameters affecting the timbral nature of your sound—be it wiggly, driving, or spacey. Crank the gain and shape the tone to get massively crunchy lead sounds and shape the amount and delay time of the chorus, or alternatively extend your sound through a means of slapback to short delays.

New to Excess V2 includes individual footswitch bypassing rather than just a singular one, making it a more flexible pedal to grab the modulation on its own without messing with the distortion volume. Additionally, both modulation and routing has expanded, featuring a new addition of a harmonized fifth for easy single-note power chords or emulating dual-lead guitar lines, along with not only a series routing from distortion to modulation but also an option for modulation into distortion—of course parallel is still an option. With easy access for utilizing an expression pedal to externally modulate the depth and time, the Excess V2 from OBNE is a fantastic pedal as much as it is a useful and multi-faceted tool for any pedalboard.

Old Blood Noise Endeavors - Technical Demo - Excess
Here it is, the part where we talk about what it is we've made. The Old Blood Noise Endeavors Excess is a combination of a high gain distortion pedal pushed into lush chorus or short repeats delay. It is a multitude of specific sounds, both old and new, all in one box. The chain of effects can be switched between Series (Distortion into Modulation) or Parallel, creating a unique combination of clean and dirty.

Controls
DIST VOL : Controls the overall level of the Distortion effect.
DIST TONE : Controls the tone of the Distortion effect, bassier, muddier tones to the left, sharper, cutting treble to the right.
DIST : Controls the gain of the Distortion effect.
MOD VOL : Controls the overall level of the Modulation effect.
RATE / TIME : Controls the Rate of the Chorus effect or the Time of the Delay effect.
DEPTH / FBK : Controls the Depth of the Chorus effect or the Feedback of the Delay effect.
SERIES / PARALLEL Toggle : Switches the effect chain from Distortion into Modulation (SERIES) or Distortion and Modulation in running in parallel independent of each other.
BYPASS : Turns the effect on or off.
CHORUS / DELAY : Changes Modulation effect from Chorus (Blue LED) to Delay (Red LED).
EXP SEL : Selects which control is linked to the Expression Input when an Expression Pedal is plugged in. Switchable between RATE / TIME and DEPTH / FBK controls.
EXP : Expression Input

The Expression jack is used to externally control either the RATE / TIME or DEPTH / FBK controls. By plugging in an expression pedal, you bypass the knob in order to change the parameter on the fly with your foot. There is a switch (EXP SEL) on the top of the pedal next to the 9V DC Jack to change which knob is controlled by the Expression Input.
