RME Fireface UFX III
The new flagship of the RME product line, the Fireface UFX III is a robust USB 3.0 audio interface with an unmatched array of analog and digital I/O supporting up to 188 total channels of audio. RME drivers are renowned for their low latency and reliability, but with features like DURec, MADI I/O, TotalMix FX, and more, the UFX III is a killer all-rounder for any stacked up studio.
Along the front panel, you'll find four XLR-1/4" TRS combo jacks for capturing any instrument, dual headphone outs, MIDI I/O, and USB slot for DURec, short for Direct USB Recording. As you might guess, the Fireface UFX III offers this port to record directly onto a USB drive. The front panel also hosts the controls for main level and headphone volume, and a handy metering display for all channels.
But the rear panel of the Fireface UFX III is where all of its power is revealed. Eight more balance line level inputs plus eight live level outputs round out the analog I/O. From there, you can interface with your studio via dual ADAT ports, MADI, AES/EBU, Word Clock, and a secondary set of MIDI ports. A remote USB port is also available for connecting RME's ARC USB controller.
All of this I/O is nice, but the UFX III still has more to offer. TotalMix FX turns the UFX III into a totally functional mixing unit with onboard DSP for reverb, delay, EQ, and dynamics control. For the synth heads, the UFX III also features DC-coupled outputs which allows for control of modular gear and more. Comprehensive is an understatement—there's practically no recording situation that the RME Firface UFX III can't handle.
