In a collaboration between Roland and the Stones Throw record label, this limited-edition SP-404 MkII boasts custom graphics and includes exclusive samples and commemorative music on vinyl and cassette. The SP-404 MkII updates the classic beat-making machine with more pads, more internal memory, and numerous workflow improvements while still maintaining everything that made the original so immediate and inspiring. Of course, the improved OLED display makes it even easier to navigate through sample editing, resampling, effects adjustment, and every other aspect of using the SP-404 MkII.

On the SP-404 MkII, up to 160 samples are available within each project—pulling from the total 16GB of internal memory. With added velocity sensitivity, using the pads is more expressive than ever. New effects like the Cassette Simulator and aptly named Lofi algorithms join classics like the Vinyl Sim and DJFX Looper, adding that additional dash of sonic nostalgia to your samples. Perhaps best of all, the SP-404 MkII boasts 1/4" audio inputs and outputs, MIDI TRS I/O, and USB-C connectivity, so you're more easily able to connect it with the rest of your gear.

For this special edition of the SP-404 MkII, Roland and Stones Throw worked together to create a truly special version of the sampler that celebrates its usage in hip hop and beat-driven music. As such, Stones Throw made sure to put together an assortment of exclusive content just for this release. The 404 itself features a custom faceplate with artwork by Jeff Jank, the artist behind essential releases in the Stones Throw catalog. But not only does this SP-404 MkII feature banks filled with samples, beats, and music from Stones Throw artists, but a special commemorative vinyl and cassette increase the collectible nature of this instrument. The 7" record contains new tracks from Kiefer and Mndsgn that were made with their own sound banks, while the tape is a 30-minute mixtape by J.Rocc featuring numerous other artists involved in this project.
