The Rupert Neve Designs 5025 Dual Shelford Mic Pre is a two-channel preamplifier inspired by and improved upon their wonderful Shelford Channel Strip. Each channel sports a multitude of utility, control, and sonic shaping over your input to bring out all the character while still keeping an insanely low noise floor. The real magic of the 5025 lies within, utilizing brilliant input and output transformers to drive signals into pleasant harmonic distortion, as well as Rupert Neve's classic Silk & Texture circuit—all within a single 19" rack space!

The first 15dB of gain per channel is driven via a custom step-up transformer, designed and integrated with class-A circuitry to bolden the midrange with fantastic harmonic magic. Utilization of this feature depends a lot on the interaction with the microphone and impedance of the signal—this can result in brilliant high end with subtle inflation of the low end. With pure tone in mind, the 5025's input transformers are fully shielded with MuMetal and carefully optimized for extremely low-noise functionality, making for a very versatile preamp while still carrying out the vintage sonic profile.

The Silk feature, found in many other Rupert Neve Designs products, adds not one, but two options for implementing the sonic color of Rupert's vintage modules. The red Silk brings sparkle and sizzle with it focusing engaging harmonic content in the highs and high mids, while blue Silk focuses on the lows and low mids to ground and thicken up your sound. These are both great for a wide range of bringing your instruments and vocals to life, and the on panel control allows you to dial in the perfect balance. Additional features such as phantom power, polarity switch, and gain trimming can be found on the front panel.

On the back of the panel, we are met with the dual outputs showcasing a master and a -6dB balanced XLR output per channel. The reasoning behind this is to give studio engineers and producers the ability to get that wonderful harmonic saturation without clipping the output or even the next processor in the signal chain. While that coloration option is for the -6dB output, the main output provides a more pristine signal at high levels while cutting out nonlinear coloration.
