Sequential Prophet-10 Desktop Module

Doubling the polyphonic potential of its five-voice counterpart, the Prophet-10 Desktop module from Sequential is a ten-voice powerhouse among analog synthesizers. The classic polysynth returns with one voice per finger, capable of the lush, extended chords for the analog pads of your dreams. Within each voice you'll find the same core as the original Prophet-5—two 3340 oscillator ICs per voice provide a rich foundation for all sounds, with sawtooth, triangle, and pulse waveforms available between both oscillators. Oscillator one can sync to two for thick hard sync textures, or bump oscillator two down into LFO range for an additional modulation source.

The history of the Prophet-5 is tied to two different filter chips that provided two distinct sonic characters, available on different revisions. But in the 21st century, you no longer need to choose, as Sequential included a handy switch to swap between the Dave Rossum designed SSI2140 and the Doug Curtis CEM3320 filters. While these two lowpass filters provide some different flavors, both are capable of self-oscillation and keyboard tracking, effectively adding a third oscillator to your synthesizer. For modulation, the Prophet-10 offers two ADSR envelope generators, one each for the filter and amplifier, and an LFO with selectable waveforms can be routed to a multitude of destinations.

As you might expect, this newest revision of the Prophet-10 draws upon the latest in synthesizer technology to keep your oscillators tamed and accurately tracking pitch across the keyboard. But when some unpredictability is desired, the Vintage knob dials in the variations of pitch and envelopes as heard on antiquated instruments, ranging from super-tight precision to loose and fluid, as if you were playing an original Prophet-5.

Although the advent of MIDI came after the end of the original Prophet-5's production, today we can thank this digital control protocol for making this desktop format instrument possible. Your Prophet-10 can be controlled both through traditional 5-pin DIN MIDI via your favorite keyboard or sequencer, as well as through USB MIDI connected to a computer. Furthermore, control voltage inputs and outputs on the back offer integration with the growing assortment of CV-capable instruments on the market, and pedal inputs for expression and sustain pedals make for a plethora of powerful possibilities.

If the promise of ten voices of analog voices weren't enough, OS 2.0 of the Prophet-10's control system adds the ability to split and stack two programs at once. This wildly expands the sound design possibilities, while enhancing the performing capabilities for the gigging or session player. Set one zone to a punchy bass and the other to a lush pad or screaming lead.
