While it was originally designed with ribbon microphones in mind, Thermionic Culture's Snow Petrel is a high-gain, low-noise dual-channel preamp that tends to sound great with nearly any mic. Aside from standard premap features like phantom power and input pad, Snow Petrel also offers an input impedance switch for greater versatility with a wide range of microphones. A selectable high-pass filter is useful for reducing proximity effect and rumble, while Air boosts up high frequencies in a way typically desired for ribbon microphones, but handy in a variety of other situations as well. With simple straightforward controls and a great sound, the Snow Petrel from Thermionic Culture is a solid companion for any microphone collection.
